My fellow New Yorkers,

As your mayor, I stand before you today to present my vision for a safer and more equitable New York City. We are at a pivotal moment in our city's history, and I believe it is time for us to come together and build a better future for all.

The State of Our City

Our city faces a number of challenges, including rising crime rates, homelessness, and inequality. According to the New York City Police Department, there were over 140,000 reported crimes in 2022, a 22% increase from the previous year. The city's Department of Homeless Services estimates that over 60,000 people are currently homeless. And according to the United Way of New York City, the median household income for black and Hispanic New Yorkers is less than half that of white New Yorkers.

These challenges are unacceptable. Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in their homes and communities, to have access to affordable housing, and to have a fair shot at success.

My Vision for a Safer and More Equitable City

I believe that we can build a safer and more equitable New York City. Here is my vision for our city:

• A city where crime is reduced and every New Yorker feels safe in their homes and communities.
• A city where homelessness is eliminated and every New Yorker has access to affordable housing.
• A city where inequality is reduced and every New Yorker has a fair shot at success.

I believe that we can achieve this vision by working together. We need to invest in our police department, our social services, and our schools. We need to create more affordable housing. And we need to address the root causes of crime and inequality.

Our Path Forward

I am confident that we can build a safer and more equitable New York City. We have the resources, the talent, and the determination. But we can only succeed if we work together.

Mayor Adams' Public Safety Plan
