Obituary
Lumberton, NC - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ted Parker, a cherished member of our community and a pillar of the local lumber industry. Ted passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023, at the age of 78.
Early Life and Career
Ted was born in Lumberton on January 10, 1945, to John and Mary Parker. He attended Lumberton High School, where he excelled in both academics and athletics, particularly in football.
After graduating, Ted joined his father's lumber business, Parker Lumber Company. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming President in 1975. Under his leadership, the company expanded its operations, becoming one of the largest lumber suppliers in the region.
Industry Contributions
Ted dedicated himself to the lumber industry, serving in various leadership roles. He was a past President of the North Carolina Forestry Association and the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association. His contributions to the industry were recognized with numerous awards, including the "Lumberman of the Year" award in 2005.
Community Involvement
Beyond his professional achievements, Ted was a dedicated member of the Lumberton community. He served on the board of directors of Southeastern Regional Medical Center and the Robeson County Literacy Council. He was also a member of the Lumberton Rotary Club, where he was a past President.
Legacy
Ted Parker will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his business, and his community. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the institutions he supported.
Family and Survivors
Ted is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Susan Parker, and their two children: John Parker of Fayetteville, NC, and Mary Parker of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Arrangements
A visitation will be held at Lumberton Funeral Home on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Lumberton on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Parkton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Robeson County Literacy Council.
